About

A steady hand

Jo Hodges
Founder · Funeral Celebrant

I founded Peace of Mind on a simple belief: every person deserves a farewell that feels true to who they were. Funerals are my focus and my craft, and I also lead wedding ceremonies for couples who ask.

We listen carefully, find the right words when they feel impossible to find, and hold the structure and the story so you have space to grieve. Non-religious and inclusive, Jo works with families of all backgrounds across Melbourne and Victoria.

Common questions

What families often ask

What does a funeral celebrant do?

A funeral celebrant plans and leads the ceremony with you. Jo meets with the family, listens to stories about the person who has died, writes a ceremony that reflects who they truly were, and delivers it on the day with care and composure. Jo also handles liaison with the funeral director and venue, so you have one less thing to manage.

How much does a funeral celebrant cost in Melbourne?

Peace of Mind offers two clear packages: A Peaceful Farewell from $850, and the full Complete Peace of Mind service from $1,650. Pricing is transparent and quoted upfront, with no hidden costs. See the services section above for full details.

Can we have a non-religious funeral?

Absolutely. Most of Jo's ceremonies are non-religious. Every ceremony is written around the person and the family, not a script or a tradition. Whatever feels right for you is what we aim to create, whatever your background or beliefs.

Can family members speak at the funeral?

Yes, and many families find it meaningful. Jo can guide family members through what to say, how long to speak, and how to prepare, so they feel supported rather than put on the spot. The ceremony is always shaped around your wishes.

How quickly can a ceremony be arranged?

Jo understands that families often face tight timelines. Once you make contact, a consultation can usually be arranged within 24 hours. Get in touch as soon as you feel ready and we will work around your schedule.

Do you work with all funeral directors?

Yes. Jo works independently of any funeral home and can work alongside any funeral director across Melbourne and Victoria. You are welcome to bring Peace of Mind in at any stage of the process.
